So, how do we add that fresh new vibrant energy to our lives? None of us are perfect and I haven't by any means figured life out, but I can tell you that lately I've discovered a few things that REALLY shifted my thinking and put the ZEST back into my daily life.
I feel like there are two sides to life. On one side, we have the BIG PICTURE: our goals, our plans and what we envision long term. Then, there's the DAY to DAY operations: getting up, getting dressed, planning our day, sitting in meetings, planning meals, paying bills, etc.
I think most of us get LOST in the DAY to DAY shuffle to the point that we lose ourselves. WE LOSE the BIGGER PICTURE. I think all of us are totally done with just living life from day to day, not really getting the most out of our experiences and maybe not extracting enough meaning out of our day to day lives.
We need to have meaning. That's the way we're built. We're built to connect and discover.
Here are a few REALLY SIMPLE tips that will help you put the zest back in your life and enable you to extract joy and feel that sense of fulfillment again. I hope something in this post will simply spark a curiosity in you to see yourself as being more significant than you realize. You're significant. You have a place in this world and in this life. It's time to connect with the BIGGER PICTURE.
This will help you get started!
1. DEFINE THE BIG PICTURE: It's easy to get lost in life because you haven't figured out or connected with the BIG PICTURE. How about you take a little time to define that? Take some time to sit in solitude and really define what you want. Realize that along the way, it really does change and that's ok. But aren't you worth taking the time to figure that out? Take a little time for yourself and sit down. Figure out what you want. Without a goal or a vision, life really has no meaning. While you're defining your BIG PICTURE, remember that it looks different for ALL of us. Your BIG PICTURE might be financial freedom or healthy living. For some of you, it might be something relating to your career or your business. It's ok. Just define it.
2. DISCOVER YOUR VALUES. Successful companies define their values. You should do the same thing! My personal, core values are FREEDOM, CREATIVITY, PURSUIT OF A BETTER LIFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY and EXPRESSION. This guides me in everything I do. What about you? Take some time to define your personal values. It really does guide every decision you make. If you don't define it, life will just happen and the situations in your life will dictate to you how you make your decisions. Flip that! Define your values.
3. ALIGN. ALIGN. ALIGN. How about you find a way to align your life with what you believe? This step takes a little faith because it may require change. Is the job or the career your working in align with your values? Does it bring out the best in you? I know some folks who are AWESOME at accounting and finance. They get their 'fix' from making sure that people and organizations are operating with their best foot forward. I personally am not a technical person, so I cannot draw any satisfaction from that type of career. But, we're all different! Maybe you're a total creative and you're stuck in a technical role that could be squashing your passion. Maybe it's the other way around for some of you! Perhaps you're working in a career with no structure and little opportunity. Is it time to move on? I'm trying to give you examples to understand that we're all different. There's one thing we do have in common: WE'RE AWARE WHEN WE'RE UNHAPPY. It's ok to admit if you're not fulfilled. It could be time to shift your life in another direction!
If we simply bounce from one day to another, we cheat ourselves out of pursuing the BIGGER PICTURE. Life is meaningful when we're connected. Life is meaningful when we set ourselves on a path with somewhat of an end in mind. Of course, things may change and unexpected things happen, but when we're rooted and have values and connect with what gives us ENERGY, we discover a whole new life and a whole new way of living.
Remember, there is so much more to life than what we know. There's more to this than the DAY to DAY things we worry about and stress over. There's a higher purpose and a greater meaning.
Discover it.
